Independent Testing Recognizes McAfee ENS as a Leader, Resets CrowdStrike Expectations

AV-Comparatives has just released their findings for the results of their testing of Business Security products in the first half year. In this test, which examines active real-world malware threats, common business malware. Overall false positives and performance, McAfee Endpoint Security version 10.5 has been recognized as a top leader amongst the field and certified as an Approved Business Product.

“This product is undoubtedly powerful, and as part of a wider McAfee managed platform it offers a lot.”

100% Protection Rate

99.7% Business Malware Protection Rate

False Positives: “Very Low”

To be certified as an “Approved Business Product” by AV-Comparatives, the tested products must score at least 90% in the Malware Protection Test, and at least 90% in the overall Real-World Protection Test (over the course of four months), with zero false alarms on common business software.

How did we do?
McAfee was amongst the top leaders with a 100% real-world protection rate, a 99.7% business malware protection rate and a “very low” false positive score.  To put this into perspective:

  • McAfee outperformed CrowdStrike, Endgame, Trend Micro and several others in the real-world protection test.
  • In business malware protection we outperformed CrowdStrike, Endgame, FireEye and others.
  • McAfee was given a “Very Low” false positive rate outperforming CrowdStrike, Trend Micro and Endgame.

Setting the record straight: CrowdStrike
CrowdStrike aggressively positions themselves as the lighter-weight, higher efficacy alternative to ENS, however this objective 3rd party testing is proof that those claims are baseless.  In addition to out-performing CrowdStrike on every efficacy test, ENS was virtually identical to CrowdStrike in terms of performance impact.

And we achieved these results with virtually no false positives, while CrowdStrike suffered from a “Very High”” rating for false positives on non-business software. To put that in context, our “Very Low” score is for vendors with less than 10 false positives. CrowdStrike is listed with a false positive rate of 101-500.

Not an isolated incident
It isn’t just AV-Comparatives who are demonstrating our accuracy, AV Test.org has tested ENS for some time and we have achieved:

‧The highest protection scores consecutively for the past year
‧A near perfect usability score consecutively for the past year

The results of these tests demonstrate the hard work that has been put into improving our efficacy and false positive rates.
